Wednesday, Jan 17th 2018

Department of Nuclear Engineering Graduate Student, Kathy Shield, along with Physics Graduate Student Vetri Velan, was honored by Representative Barbara Lee on January 13, 2018.  The two graduate students were recognized in the official Congressional Record for their work in developing a calculator to assess the effect of proposed tax changes on their salaries.  The calculator went viral and according to Barbara Lee, “Because of their great work this harmful provision was removed from the final bill,” Lee said in her statement. “Vetri and Kathy have saved thousands of dollars for graduate students across the country, and have ensured many hard-working students will continue to have access to graduate school.”

Congratulations Kathy!
